Not Applicable | Harmful | Harmful | Harmful | Harmful |
Additional context: This behaviour is listed as Harmful because it will always need some intervention. Even if a young person has accessed a site out of curiosity, it will be important to have a conversation about what they saw. This may be to contextualise it (eg explain that it is extreme), or to give them the opportunity to talk about anything they found upsetting.

Accessing extremist/pro-self-harm/suicide social media accounts as part of ongoing recovery or offering support
0-5 years | 6-8 years | 9-12 years | 13-15 years | 16-18 years |
---|---|---|---|---|
Not Applicable | Harmful | Harmful | Harmful | Harmful |
Additional context: If young people accessed these types of sites at difficult times, they may wish to do so when they are in recovery to offer support. We’ve categorised this as a Harmful behaviour because seeing this content could be upsetting. Therefore, this behaviour needs a response. This could be discussing how they feel about the content or giving them information about support services people can access so they don’t feel that they have to help everyone themselves.
